How to Make Yourself Drink More Water

drink more waterThere is nothing quite as difficult as remembering to drink your 8+ cups of water daily, especially if you’re a busy girl on the move. I know I certainly struggle with drinking my water and staying hydrated, especially when I am hot and heavy in the middle of a project. And I know you know there are so many benefits of being hydrated, but no matter what the motive, you just downright struggle.

So, here are some of my quick and dirty tips on how to make yourself drink more water everyday:

Drink 1 liter of water before every meal

I found this via Lauren Conrad’s blog and thought it was worth a share here. She recommends to drink 1 liter or 4.2 cups or 33.8 oz of water before eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner and will not begin eating until she has finished drinking her water first. Setting your water clock before diving into a meal is an easy rule of thumb to follow, and can help you feel more energy, hydrated, and less ravenous when eating.

Get a water alarm

I have seen some cool phone apps that can help track and remind you to drink your water at specific intervals during the day. So, when your day is over, you can get a really good idea of how well you are hydrating yourself and what you can do to improve.

Carry your water bottle with you everywhere you go

I know I am guilty of the “out-of-sight, out-of-mind” chores in my life, especially drinking water. So, I usually just carry my bottle around with me everywhere I go, and when I see I am running low, I refill and keep sipping away.

Get a “Smart” Water bottle

If you are looking for an automatic way to drink more water, you might want to consider investing in a smart water bottle that will automatically track your daily water intake and connect your progress with your mobile devices. For anyone that likes to make their own water bottle reminders, pick up a sharpie and a plastic gallon jug. At 2 hour increments, make a water line for every 16 oz and mark the time so you can coordinate when to drink and how much you should be drinking from the time you wake up to when you go to bed.
